RVAg's mission is to create and market vibrant venues for local farmers and artisans so they can offer their products directly to consumers and to cultivate community engagement using local food as a common link.  We are a not-for-profit 501(c)(3).

We provide five weekly, seasonal farmers markets. Two in Goochland County and one in Chesterfield County, Powhatan County, and in the City of Richmond (Virginia's only state sponsored farmers market). We also offer other year round, one-time "pop-up" markets through collaboration with local agricultural entities, such as restaurants, breweries and wineries.  Our pick-up sites are located at our current market sites and community partners.  Watch for Pop-Up sites coming soon in collaboration with local restaurants!

This innovative online ordering system allows our current market shoppers to continue to purchase from local farmers and producers both during and after the COVID-19 pandemic.  All market staff, farmers producers are dedicated to adhering to health and safety standards and to providing safe and reliable access to nutritious foods necessary to a healthy community.

As a customer, you have access to some of the region’s best local farmers and producers.  There is no minimum order, and in fact - there is no requirement to purchase weekly!  All prices are set by our farmers and producers, which allows even startup farms an opportunity to grow at their own pace.  

We will share stories about our farmers and producers, highlight new products and collaborations, and share farm fresh product tips and recipes in our weekly email newsletter and our Online Marketplace social media pages. We send weekly text reminders when the Buying Pages open and close.

RVAg offers low-cost or no-cost educational programs for farmers and consumers on topics related to sustainable agriculture, food and farming.  Ask us about our Mobile Culinary Learning Lab as well as our Ag In The Classroom program!

We provide presentations to schools and other organizations to educate and raise social consciousness about the importance of local food and farming, and their critical link to building healthy, sustainable communities.

We work with local charity organizations to bridge the gap between food crisis and food health in our region, facilitating access, education and assistance to marginalized communities that would otherwise not be able to access the quality of food and health benefits of farm fresh, organic, locally raised food. 

Although the organization was founded as a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2015, it operated as an LLC prior to that, starting in 2011, when we first opened our flagship market - Manakin Market.

RVAg has been a leader in the Central Virginia food system and has been involved in the Virginia Farmers Market Association since its inception in 2012. We were the first farmers market in Central Virginia to adopt an online market management system, and have influenced many, many other markets in the area to follow suit, streamlining market management for both vendors and market managers.

We have also been leaders in providing educational programs in our many markets, such as our popular Chef at the Market program, and have been called upon by numerous municipalities around the state for consulting services relating to starting up or managing farmers markets.

RVAg has been instrumental in collaborating with other markets around Central Virginia and has been a member of the Capital Area Farmers Market Association since its inception in 2015.
